Aelita Andre......little artist

Aelita Andre: The 2-year-old artist who showed her paintings in a famous gallery
The abstract paintings of emerging artist Aelita Andre have people in Australia's art world talking. Aelita is two (the works were painted when she was even younger). Aelita got an opportunity to show her paintings when Mark Jamieson, the director of Brunswick Street Gallery in Melbourne's Fitzroy, was asked by a photographer whose work he represented to consider the work of another artist. Jamieson liked what he saw and agreed to include it in a group show.

Jamieson then started to promote the show, printing glossy invitations and placing ads in the magazines Art Almanac and Art Collector, featuring the abstract work. Only then did he discover a crucial fact about the new artist: Aelita Andre is Kalashnikova's daughter, and was just 22 months old. Jamieson was shocked and embarrassed but decided to proceed with the exhibition anyways.

Mahesh Vs Tarak

Come October, it’s going to be a fiesta for Telugu movie buffs! But for Jr.NTR and Mahesh Babu Fans, it’s going to competition time!
Now with the official release dates confirmed for both ‘Khaleja’, an action entertainer and ‘Brindaavanam’, a family entertainer, fans of both the stars will fight to see their stars emerge victory!
‘Khaleja’ releases on October 7th while ‘Brindaavanam’ releases on October 8th! Call that cut-throat competition! To top it off, a week prior to the release of these two big budget movies, is the Mother of all Commercial movies, Shankar’s ‘Robo’ releases on October 1st. So you can expect stiff competition ahead for NTR and Mahesh.
While ‘Khaleja’ boasts of the ‘Athadu’ combination of Trivikram – Manisharma – Mahesh Babu, ‘Brindavanam’ boasts of the intelligent brain of ‘Dil’ Raju who promotes his movie quite wisely. Both movies are made at huge costs and both the heroes want hits badly, especially in the case of Mahesh Babu who’s coming to screens after a long hiatus.
On one hand, we have the fans of either camp who will want their stars to succeed and on the other hand we have the rest of the Telugu film audiences who accept everybody to be a super hero! Which side are you on?

Mars rover stalks mystery space alien object Droid crawler in thrilling chase vs. (immobile) 'cobble'

NASA's interplanetary robot rover "Opportunity", prowling the haematite steppes of the Meridiani Planum on Mars, has crept up on and photographed a mysterious space boulder or "cobble". Astro boffins theorise that the object may be alien in origin, rather than from the red planet.
Block Island pictured by NASA rover OpportunityAlien robot meets extramartian space boulder.
The boulder/cobble was originally spotted by NASA boffins in charge of the rover on July 18. However, Opportunity had by that point driven well past the object, codenamed "Block Island" by NASA. The droid rover, which moves at a crawl, has since been laboriously creeping some 250m back on its tracks to get a proper look at the possible space rock.
The space agency has now released close-up pics of "Block Island" (more here) and says that there are plans to confirm its alien extra-Martian origin by use of Opportunity's alpha-particle X ray spectrometer. Personally, we here on the Reg space desk are hoping it turns out to be a cryptic "nanodiamond" from the mysterious ureilite mother-planetoid, like the pieces discovered in the Nubian desert here on Earth recently.
Meanwhile, Opportunity's companion rover Spirit remains bogged down in a sand trap in the Gusev crater on the other side of the red planet. NASA brainboxes are engaged in a lengthy series of trials using a test rover in a sandbox on Earth, attempting to figure out a way of getting the trapped droid moving again.
Both Spirit and Opportunity have, however, continued to operate many times longer than they were expected to. NASA engineers originally thought that the Mars-prowling machines might manage to travel as much as a kilometer from their landing sites over lifetimes measured in months. In fact both machines remain in operation well over 5 years from landing. Opportunity has moved more than 17km as of the last update, and Spirit almost 8km.
NASA now plans to despatch a new, much larger - Humvee sized - nuclear powered rover (called the Mars Science Laboratory or MSL) to the red planet in 2011, following development and funding problems. The MSL had originally been planned to launch later this year.

Bermuda Triangle Mystery Solved

Computer studies of ocean floors around the world, particularly the area known as The Bermuda Triangle, reveal evidence of massive methane explosions in the past. For years, believers in the paranormal, aliens, and other outlandish theories pointed to the the disappearance of ships and aircraft as an indicator of mysterious forces at work in the “Devil’s triangle.” Scientists have finally pointed the rest of us to a more plausible cause.
The presence of methane hydrates indicates enormous eruptions of methane bubbles that would swamp a ship, and projected high into the air- take out flying airplanes, as well.
Any ships caught within the methane mega-bubble immediately lose all buoyancy and sink to the bottom of the ocean. If the bubbles are big enough and possess a high enough density they can also knock aircraft out of the sky with little or no warning. Aircraft falling victim to these methane bubbles will lose their engines-perhaps igniting the methane surrounding them-and immediately lose their lift as well, ending their flights by diving into the ocean and swiftly plummeting.

China's Next Moon Probe to Be Faster, Better Than First

China's second moon probe will launch this year and will fly faster and reach lunar orbit sooner than its predecessor, Chang'e-1, according to the country's state-run media.

The new probe, Chang'e-2, is set to launch in late 2010, China's Xinhua news agency reported. It is the second step in China's three-phase Chang'e moon exploration program, named after China's mythical Moon Goddess. Chang'e-3 is slated to land on the moon in 2013.

"It is estimated Chang'e-2 can reach lunar orbit within five days, compared to 13 days, 14 hours and 19 minutes for Chang'e-1," Ouyang Ziyuan, chief scientist at the China Lunar Exploration Project, told Xinhua.
Chang'e-1 launched in October 2007 and ended a 16-month moon observation mission in March 2009 when it crash landed on the lunar surface.
"China has not been to moon before the country launched Chang'e-1, so we were very prudent at that time and adjusted its orbit in a very slow manner. It flew a journey of 2.06 million km before reaching lunar orbit," Ouyang said. "But it's different now. We are more sure about the launch."
This second probe will also orbit the moon 60 miles (100 km) closer and carry a higher resolution camera, he told Xinhua.
Around 2017, China is planning to return a moon rock sample to Earth.
China's moon program is just one prong of the nation's burgeoning space program, which has so far seen three successful manned spaceflights, including the nation's first spacewalk on the most recent mission, the Shenzhou 7 flight of 2008.
China is also planning to build a manned space station. The first module, Tiangong 1, is currently slated to be launched unmanned in early 2011. At least two more modules are also under construction, and the space station is expected to be completed around 2022.
After Russia and the United States, China is the third country to independently launch humans to space. The nation's first manned mission, Shenzhou 5, launched in 2003.

Death Valley Mystery: What Makes Rocks Wander

A section of California's Death Valley is home to a strange phenomenon: Rocks that litter the landscape seem to move on their own, leaving long trails behind them in the cracked, bone-dry clay.
These wanderings have baffled scientists for more than five decades. Nobody has ever caught a glimpse of the stones actually moving, yet move they must, because the rocks' locations, and the trails they leave behind them, change over time.
A group of young scientists is taking a crack at solving the puzzle of this odd desert area known as Racetrack Playa.
Most of the wandering stones are about the size of a one-liter soda bottle and far heavier, according to Brian Jackson, a NASA scientist who has been studying the area for more than four years.
"You don't expect 20-pound (9-kilogram) rocks to go sliding across the ground very easily, but they seem to do that on occasion," Jackson said.
moving-rocks-racetrack-playa

Jackson said crackpot theories abound to explain the stones' travels across the playa (a term for a dried-out lake bed), which is about 3 miles (4.5 kilometers) long, almost a mile and a half (2 km) across, and preternaturally flat.
"I've definitely heard aliens, magnetic fields, frat boys from UNLV" — the University of Nevada, Las Vegas — "but nothing really plausible," Jackson said. "There's no way it could really be a hoax, because if someone were pushing them you'd see footprints."
Earlier this summer, a group of interns from NASA's Lunar and Planetary Science Academy, a program run by the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, headed west to study the phenomenon. In addition to collecting GPS measurements and myriad other data, the students retrieved instruments that had been buried in the ground three months earlier. The sturdy little instruments they dug up, called hygrochrons, are about the size of a quarter and measure humidity and temperature; they had been planted by NASA researcher Gunther Kletetschka.
The interns plan to publish a paper this year presenting their findings, which so far seem to back up a current theory that during the winter months, ice forms around the rocks, allowing them to slip across the frozen surface of the playa.
Jackson said the data the interns gathered during their expedition confirmed that the playa had been wet and cold enough over the winter to form ice. "So that's encouraging," he said. "That tells us that at least some of the conditions required to move these rocks were met. It's pretty clear these rocks are assisted by ice somehow." Some scientists think algae blooms may play a role, he added.

Besides looking to Racetrack Playa to help solve mysteries on our own planet, researchers are examining the area to better understand conditions on other worlds. Jackson is co-author of a recent study, led by Johns Hopkins University's Ralph Lorenz, comparing the meteorological conditions of the region to those near Ontario Lacus, a vast, liquid hydrocarbon lake on Saturn's moon Titan.
Jackson said the continuing mystery of the moving rocks doesn't bother him and that, in fact, perplexing problems are a boon to science.
"Science is really all about ignorance," Jackson said. "I think the most exciting science is done in places where you don't understand what's going on. Once you're not confused about something, it's time to move on to the next problem."

Jeremy Renner To Co-Star With Tom Cruise in 'Mission: Impossible 4'

As the Tom Cruise vehicle Knight and Day failed to live up the lofty box-office standards that controversial actor is known for, insiders raised the question of whether Paramount Pictures would be forced to pursue some kind of Shia LaBeouf-type to revitalize their upcoming Mission: Impossible 4 and to bolster the franchise against Cruise's newfound box office anathema.  Now, after some two months of speculation, it will be announced that Jeremy Renner, the Oscar-nominated star of The Hurt Locker, has been picked to inject some new blood into the 14-year-old franchise.

Paramount chose Renner to co-star with Tom Cruise after a prolonged search that included planned screen-tests for a number of young actors, including Tom Hardy,Chris Pine, Kevin Zegers, Christopher Egan, and Anthony Mackie.  However,Deadline is now reporting that the studio has officially canceled its remaining screen-tests and has set the somewhat older Hurt Locker star for the series' fourth installment.

M:I4 will mark the second major role Renner has landed after his critically hailed turn as reckless adrenaline-junkie Sergeant William James in 2008.  The 39-year-old actor is currently set to play Hawkeye in Marvel Studio's upcoming superhero ensemble flick The Avengers, with director Joss Whedon.  He also has a supporting role inBen Affleck's The Town, which debuts next month.
Jessica Alba
According to Deadline, Renner will be groomed to take over the franchise should Cruise cease to be the films' central protagonist.  Though Cruise is still expected to return for a fifth Mission: Impossible, studio execs wanted a new co-star to act as an insurance policy for the billion dollar franchise.  Production chief Adam Goodman said that Renner had "a Daniel Craig quality" that the studio felt would be bankable in the long run.

Ratatouille and The Incredibles director Brad Bird will direct from a script by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, with M:I:3 director JJ Abrams returning to produce alongside Cruise.  Mission: Impossible 4 is set to begin production this fall on location in the U.S., Vancouver, Prague and Dubai.

BIOGRAPHY
Anirrefutable Hollywood megastar who is equally magnetic and manic, revered and reviled, Cruise was just 21 when he landed his breakthrough role as a horny high-school hunk in 1983's sex romp Risky Business. With athletic good looks, a 1,000-watt smile and oodles of natural charm, he became an overnight celebrity, thanks in part to an iconic scene in which he danced around his living room to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" clad in a shirt, briefs and sunglasses. Eager to prove that he wasn't just another pretty boy, the young actor signed on to a number of diverse projects. Aside from a few bombs (the fantasy epic Legend, the flat comedy Cocktail), he was a hit at the box office, in lowbrow blockbusters (a cocky pilot in Top Gun, a cocky race-car driver in Days of Thunder) as well as in more high-minded fare (a protective younger brother in Rain Man, a disabled Vietnam vet in Born on the Fourth of July, which earned him an Oscar nod). Despite his fame, Cruise was — at least at this point in his life — fanatical about his privacy, including his devotion to the Church of Scientology. Yet a romance with his Days of Thunder costar Nicole Kidman — whom he married 10 months after divorcing his first wife, Mimi Rogers — landed him in the gossip columns. He starred opposite Kidman again in his next film, the 1992 flop Far and Away, but then reached new heights in a succession of hits: the military courtroom drama A Few Good Men, the action flick Mission: Impossible and the romantic comedy Jerry Maguire, which snagged him a second Academy Award nomination. At the apex of his fame, Cruise disappeared from the screen for three years in order to work with his wife under celebrated (and notoriously slow) director Stanley Kubrick on the sexual epic Eyes Wide Shut. Released in 1999, the convoluted film was neither a critical nor commercial success. But Cruise bounced back with an Oscar-nominated supporting turn as a sex guru in Magnolia that same year. It's ironic that so many of Cruise's roles revolved around sex considering that rumors abounded about his sexual orientation, leading the actor to file a number of defamation lawsuits. In 2001 his marriage to Kidman fell apart and their split dominated the tabloids for months, as did his subsequent relationship with Vanilla Sky costar Penelope Cruz. In the '00s, after two decades in showbiz, Cruise began averaging a blockbuster per year (Mission: Impossible IIMinority ReportWar of the Worlds). However, in 2005 his off-screen antics began to sully his reputation, including his public feud with Brooke Shields over the merits of antidepressants; his constant championing of the controversial Scientology; and his bizarre romance with starlet Katie Holmes, which prompted him to proclaim his love standing atop a sofa on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Dubbed TomKat by the media, the couple enjoyed a whirlwind courtship and soon announced that they were engaged and pregnant. They welcomed a daughter in April, 2006 and tied the knot in November of that year. Their constant media attention earned them a 2006 Razzie award for being the year's most tiresome tabloid target.

'Resident Evil' kills it at the Box Office!

Add to Mixx!
Add to Yahoo! Buzz
The lowest grossing weekend of the year thus far is led by Sony/Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D with a franchise high of $27.7 million in 3D and IMAX powered dollars.  Star Milla Jovovich proves that audiences like their action heroes hot, female and tough as nails.  Much like Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt in the late-summer blockbuster “Salt,” the ass-kicking style of Milla as Alice certainly resonates strongly with audiences looking for an unconventional action star.  The R-rated franchise has enjoyed enormous success in the September time-frame and this becomes the third number one debut in the post-summer period forResident Evil.  Sony took perfect advantage of this typically slow post-Labor Day weekend and makes box office lemonade out of lemons with a solid debut that garnered 10% of its weekend gross from the IMAX giant screen digital format and kept the fanboys in cinematic heaven.
International box office spotlight: Resident Evil: Afterlife took in a massive $45.5 million with Japan leading the charge with $15.455 million, Russia close behind at $9.5 million and Spain with $3.4 million.

Sony is having a great weekend with the number two spot held by Takers with $6.1 million and a domestic cumulative that is closing in on $50 million.  The PG-13 action film has shown incredible staying power since its release and Paul Walker, Chris Brown and the appealing ensemble cast has continued to draw audiences.

Box Office fun fact: Sony holds four of the Top Ten spots at the box office this weekend with Resident Evil, Takers, The Other Guys and Eat Pray Love.

Third place goes to George Clooney in last weekend’s number one film Focus Features’ The American with $5.89 million for the weekend against a 55% drop and a total domestic take to date of $28.3 million.  After battling “Machete” all during the mid-week contest and holding at number one, the film was finally knocked off the top spot by Resident Evil: Afterlife on Friday.

Number four goes to Danny Trejo in Robert Rodriguez’s grind-house style action flick Machete with $4.2 million in its second weekend of release and a pretty steep 63% second weekend drop.  The unique action film is now closing in on $21 million in domestic dollars.

Rounding out the top five with a second weekend gross of $3.6 million is Warner Bros.’ romantic comedy Going the Distance which stars Drew Barrymore and Justin Long.  A mild 44% drop put the film in the top five and a domestic total to date of $14 million.  The film benefitted from being the only light-hearted film in a top five that was dominated by the genres of action and sci-fi.

The first weekend of the Fall movie season, while down overall from last year, was still a land of opportunity for “Resident Evil: Afterlife” which took full advantage of what is typically one of the lowest grossing weekends of any year.  Next week really heats up some terrific films including Sony’s expected box office juggernaut “Easy A” starring Emma Stone and Warner Bros. “The Town” starring and directed by Ben Affleck.  Look out for “Devil” from Universal and Lionsgate’s “Alpha and Omega.”

Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani preview: First look

Introduction

Well, here's for the next phone courtesy of the joint efforts of Giorgio Armani and Samsung. Third in line, it's meant to be the perfect companion for Armani's suits and more importantly, for the executives that wear them. Let's face it, a high-street fashion label phone is all about the statement and a little less about the functionality. The Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani phones however, delivers on both and it does that with a charm of its own.
Honestly, when we first welcomed the review sample in our office, we were a bit put off by the large size, which seemed to make the golden highlights design even louder aesthetically. However we guess that in the fashion accessories worlds, being loud is the best way to attract the much sought-after attention.
After all, the B7620 is not tacky, it's just plain golden to our taste. And as you probably remember, our fearless editors don't mind dipping their feet in stores full of gold mobiles. So here goes, our quick preview of the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani as we briefly took it out for a spin.

You can easily tell - just by looking at the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani model name - that's it's a really close relative to the already available Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO. Well, there are some hardware differences, of course. The new Armani phone can tilt its screen and has 8 gigs worth of internal storage, but it comes with a slightly larger footprint and doesn't have the 3.5mm audio jack of the OmniaPRO. Still, as you can see, they're almost like twin brothers.

But let's have a nice look of the new Armani phone by Samsung on its own, after all, it's the start of today's show.
